Planning a mobile crib room fleet
across projects.

Choosing several mobile crib rooms is an allocation decision as well as a layout decision. Map where each unit is needed, which jobs overlap and what services each site provides before discussing a multi-unit order.

01 — Project pipeline

Count simultaneous needs, not total jobs.

A contractor may have several projects in the pipeline without needing a separate crib room for every one. Start with a calendar showing when each crew facility is required and when it could be released. Include overlapping work stages, changes in crew numbers and uncertainty about the finishing date. A unit still serving one crew cannot also be allocated to the next site.

Give each project a row in a simple register. Record its location, intended use, required arrival, expected release and the person responsible for confirming those dates. Mark tentative dates clearly. This makes it easier to see whether a proposed fleet supports the actual programme, rather than relying on an assumed sequence of back-to-back jobs.

02 — Shared layout

Separate the common requirements from the exceptions.

A consistent core arrangement can give crews a familiar space as units move between sites. The published Series 7 layout brings crew dining, a kitchen and an office together. The specifications list bench dining seating for eight and two workstations. Check those functions against each team's daily use rather than treating the seating figure as a complete fleet-sizing rule.

Identify which requirements apply to every unit and which belong to a particular project. One crew may need the office throughout the day, while another mainly needs a lunchroom and briefing space. Review the floor plans and describe any exceptions in the order brief. The custom layout guide helps organise changes that remain subject to design and quote.

03 — Configuration allocation

Assign Standard and Off-Grid to the receiving site.

A fleet does not have to use one power configuration everywhere. Series 7 Standard suits sites with dependable power and the required services. An early-stage or remote project without dependable external power may call for the Series 7 Off-Grid. Record what will be available when the crew starts, including temporary arrangements and services expected later.

The Series 7 Off-Grid has an 8 kW off-grid power system: 1.2 kW of solar charges two 314 Ah 24 V lithium batteries feeding an 8 kVA inverter/charger. A 4.5 kVA diesel generator with a 100 L diesel tank provides backup. Runtime depends on loads and weather. Use the power planning guide to prepare a load brief for each location; do not assume identical units will have identical operating patterns.

The Series 7 fresh water and waste water tanks hold 500 L each. Filling and pump-out arrangements still need a named owner at every site. A common tank capacity does not create a common servicing interval. Link the fleet register to the water and wastewater plan for each unit's current location.

04 — Moves and handovers

Plan the gap between projects.

A release date is only the start of relocation planning. Before assigning a unit to its next job, allow in the programme for the actual transport arrangements, condition checks, cleaning and any servicing identified by the responsible team. Confirm what must happen before movement with the supplier and transport provider. Do not promise the next crew an arrival based only on the previous project's intended finish.

Use a handover record showing the departing site, receiving site, unit identity, responsible contacts and outstanding actions. Recheck the receiving site's route, entry, positioning area and service access each time. The delivery and site-readiness checklist supports that discussion. Loaded weight, ratings and the suitable tow vehicle must be checked for the selected unit and movement.

05 — Unit records

Keep the build details with the unit.

Give every fleet unit a record that follows it between projects. Include the confirmed layout, configuration, supplied operating information, current location, site contact and any reported faults or changes. Record who is responsible for arranging servicing and resolving outstanding items before the next handover. Different builds should not be treated as interchangeable simply because they look similar.

When a crew requests an alteration, check it against the relevant unit's documentation and discuss the proposed change before proceeding. Update the record after an approved change. A clear history helps the next project team understand what is actually supplied, especially when a fleet contains both standard arrangements and custom interiors.

06 — Procurement brief

Send one overview with a separate row for every site.

For a multi-unit enquiry, send Site Mate the project calendar and site register together. Include crew use, preferred layout, power availability, water and waste arrangements, access information and any custom requirements for each location. Explain whether matching units are a priority or whether specific projects need different arrangements.

Discuss purchase around the continuing project pipeline, or long-term project hire around defined project requirements. Site Mate builds on the Gold Coast, supplies purchased units Australia-wide and offers long-term project hire across Queensland, NSW and Victoria. Confirm the selected configuration and delivery arrangements in the quote. The buying guide covers the wider checks to work through before committing.

Common questions

Fleet planning FAQ.

Should every unit in a mobile crib room fleet be identical?

Not necessarily. A shared core layout can make handovers more familiar, but each site still needs its own crew, power, water and access assessment. Discuss any different layout with Site Mate before confirming the order.

Can a fleet include Standard and Off-Grid units?

Yes. Discuss Series 7 Standard for sites with power and required services, and Series 7 Off-Grid for sites without dependable external power. Allocate each unit according to the receiving site rather than assuming one configuration suits every project.

What should a fleet enquiry include?

Provide a site-by-site list with locations, project overlaps, crew use, preferred layouts, available services, access details and purchase or long-term-hire requirements. Identify which details are confirmed and which still need checking.
